Tech Classes

It might sound funny or ridiculous to some people, but I accomplished a milestone in my own personal technical growth.  Yesterday I learned how to create power point presentations.  I had previously attended a workshop given by a friend, but it left me feeling incredibly frustrated, stupid, and no new learning had occured.  As a matter of fact, I began to resent people who could create a power point presentation with little effort.

After my workshop yesterday, I reflected on how easy it really was to learn the program and I felt a bit foolish that I couldn’t figure it out on my own.  Upon further reflection, I realized that the difference between both learning experiences was due to the instructors.  My first instructor rushed through the material and didn’t make accommodations for the various levels of experience.  Yesterdays instructor made it easy for me to learn because she was patient, encouraging, worked one on one, and she gave us time to practice our new learning.

It reminds me of all the wonderful qualities we should have when we work with our writers.

  1. I love making power points – but had I not had a class where it was part of my required homework, I probably would have been too chicken to try it. You are right about instructors – whenever I’m about to attempt something new and daunting it makes all the difference in the world who is standing at my shoulder in the work.
