I have never posted any type of poetry attempts, but this is what I wrote after helping students find their classrooms as they arrived for the first day of school.
Shiny floors,
new displays,
pencils sharpened,
kids on their way.
Smiling faces,
new hair-do’s,
what will I wear?
It’s the first day of school!
I’m feeling your first day.. Keep the poems coming…
Bonnie
Strong images from your poem.
Yea for the first day and for venturing into a new genre. Looking forward to reading more slice/poems.
That’s a great poem! Today my class (half of them were my class last year) kept saying that everything looked new. I had to tell them it was just the shiny floor. 🙂
Woo hoo for stepping out and publishing your poetry!!! Did you share it with your class?
Thank you. I also wrote this in my writer’s notebook so I can share it with students later on.
Obviously what you observed just all came together. Nice poem:)
Thanks for sharing your poem! I’ve been venturing into that genre again too – it’s been a long time. I’ve got a new shiny floor in my room – but I haven’t even thought about what to wear on my first day! (in 2 days)
I love it! Perhaps I will try this tomorrow with my new writers on our first day!
i can def. relate to this poem!! thanks for sharing it!
